Fig Farm

Weltevrede is one of the first fig farms in South Africa. It started out as a fruit drying farm: drying peaches, apricots and figs. Today we have over a thousand fig trees (one tree is over a hundred years old!) and we sell dry, fresh and bottled figs.

We farm mainly with Adam Figs, a big purple fig, excellent for drying and selling fresh. We use the tiny Cape Brown figs for making Green Fig Preserve and other fig products.

The fresh figs are mainly sold to Woolworths and are awaited anxiously each year.

The dried figs have been made on this farm since ouma Sienie started making them, and we have clients that had been getting dried figs from this farm, every year, for 50 years.

To order fresh or dried figs, please call 023-5411715 or email

Our preserves are sold across the country to select deli’s.  Please visit our Facebook page for a complete list and to see the beautiful doilies that dresses our jams.

The fig season is from end of January to end of April. During the fig season the farm can be visited between 10h00 and 12h00, as well as 14h30 to16h from Mondays to Fridays. On Saturdays we are only open form 10h00 to 12h00 and we are (very) closed on Sundays.

During visits to the farm, the fig drying activities can be viewed and products can be bought.  For people in a hurry, our products are also sold in Prince Albert.

If you want to visit the fig farm outside of fig season, please do so by appointment only.
